DAYTONA BEACH, FL (Jan. 28, 2010) – Daytona State College’s student-athlete based Community Service Leadership Committee has embraced the Haiti relief effort as one of their service projects for the year. During the following Falcon home games, items such as bottled water, diapers and wipes, tooth paste, tooth brushes, baby formula, crackers, sleeping bags, flash lights, batteries, toiletries, cereal, beans, rice, and monetary donations (checks should be made payable to Daytona State College – write in the memo: Haiti for Life Campaign) will be collected. The campaign concludes Wednesday, Feb. 24, when all donated items will be taken to the American Red Cross.

The Community Service Leadership Committee was established in Fall of 2003 with the purpose of organizing what was an existing concept into a formal process. Members of the committee consist of one freshman and one sophomore from each team. The CSLC’s mission is to 1) provide charitable and/or monetary assistance to nonprofit organizations in need of a helping hand and 2) promote awareness of the Daytona State College student-athletes’ involvement in charitable activities/programs in the Daytona Beach community.

Daytona State College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and the Florida Community College Athletics Association Mid-Florida Conference. The Falcons currently compete in seven Division I NJCAA sports including Men's and Women's Basketball, Baseball, Fast-Pitch Softball, Women's Golf and Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving.
